Actually... if you want to get really scientific about it, an item that appears red actually isn't red. It's every colour BUT red as red is the only part of the colour spectrum that the object doesn't absorb. So, if you see something as red, that's because it reflects back the red part of the entire colour spectrum. Same for something that's blue, yellow etc. So, if you look like you're white, it's because your skin reflect back the entire visible colour spectrum.
